NODDING SYNDROME: MPs accuse government of negligence

The MPs have also decried the state of health care in the country and called on the ministry of health to find a lasting solution to the illness.

On Sunday NTV’s Weekend Edition bulletin aired a story highlighting the plight of children living with nodding syndrome.

Now, the debate on the fate of the children suffering from the debilitating condition has been reignited with many expressing their disappointment with the government for not doing enough to find a solution to nodding syndrome.

 

Members of Parliament have expressed their disappointment with government’s apparent neglect of children with nodding syndrome in northern Uganda.

The MPs have also decried the state of health care in the country and called on the ministry of health to find a lasting solution to the illness.

 

In 2012, parliament passed a resolution urging the government to identify resources to facilitate research into the causes of the disease and feed the affected persons.

The Ministry of Health submitted a supplementary budget request, which was accepted in April 2012.

 

The MPs say the money used to fund non-essential activities should be diverted to causes like this.

They also promised to support initiatives dealing with the problem
