The commission of inquiry into land acquisition and management has run out of funds and will take a break until additional funds for its operations are found
Catherine Bamugemereire, the chairperson of the commission, told journalists at the commission’s offices in Kampala that a lot of the commission’s work could not proceed due to lack of funds.
NTV has learnt that, of the Shs17 billion budget presented to the Ministry of Finance for its work for 6 months, the commission was given Shs2.5 billion for the first quarter.
The commission requires the balance to be able to do its work including widening the commissioners' engagements with the public in different parts of the country.
The Minister for Lands , Housing and Urban Development, Betty Amongi says efforts are being made to get the commission to continue with its work.
The Commission is expected to present to the President a draft report within the first 3 months of their findings which falls in early August.
