Tororo Arch-diocese Archbishop Rev Emmanuel Obbo says Kibuuka didn’t get permission from the pope to join the Evangelical Orthodox church as prescribed in the Canon laws.

Thousands of Catholics thronged  Mamre Prayer Centre in Namugongo this afternoon to attend the Consecration of bishop Jacinto Kibuuka in the Evangelical Orthodox Church.

Jacinto Kibuuka has been Consecrated as the new Evangelical Orthodox Bishop for East and Central Uganda.

Archbishop Tom Kiiza led the Consecration.

Whereas Bishops and priests are prohibited from marrying under the Catholic Church, Kibuuka is free to have a spouse under his new faith. And Archbishop Kiiza urged Kibuuka to get a wife.

However, the Catholic church released a statement protesting the move saying it is illegal since the traditional Catholic norms were neglected.

Tororo Arch-diocese Archbishop Rev Emmanuel Obbo says Kibuuka didn’t get permission from the pope to join the Evangelical Orthodox church as prescribed in the Canon laws.Kibuuka becomes the firsts Evangelical Orthodox Church bishop in Central and Eastern Uganda.

It remains to be seen how he will gain acceptance and legitimacy when he is at loggerheads with the Catholic church.
