The minister of Information and national guidance, Maj. Gen Jim Muhwezi has ordered that all media outlets should henceforth stop live coverage of all activities related to FDC's defiance campaign that has been ongoing.

The ban stretches to include live coverage of events, press conferences and talkshows at which any member of FDC or any other person engages in activities that are seen to further the aims of the defiance campaign.

Muhwezi also clarifies that while reporting on all FDC activities has not been banned, media houses should be careful not to be report anything that promotes, or is seen to promote, the defiance campaign even though it is not live.

While the ban does not specifically mention social media, the executive director of the Uganda Communication Commission, Geoffrey Mutabazi says the social media platforms will be monitored and anybody deemed to be giving the defiance campaign coverage shall be deemed to be flounting the law.Mutabazi went as far as to insinuate that shutting down social media is something that the government can consider.
