Bank of Uganda Governor Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile has revealed that the Central Bank has released $97 million, approximately Shs350 billion, part of which was meant to procure drugs by the National Medical Stores.
This follows threats by the national drugs distributor to stop the supplies to health centres due to a Shs41 billion debt owed to drug suppliers. But Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance Keith Muhakanizi informed the parliamentary Public Accounts Committee that the money was meant not just for specific projects but to fund the entire budget.
