Uganda needs eight billion dollars (approximately 28 trillion shillings) to cover the humanitarian needs of over 1.2 million refugees in the country.

While, addressing a joint conference with humanitarian agencies in Kampala, Prime Minister Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda said the number of refugees could increase by 400,000 before the end of this year as the situation in South Sudan remains volatile. 

The conference is a precursor of the two day United Nations Solidarity Summit on Refugees to be co-hosted by President Yoweri Museveni and UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres from 22nd to 23rd June in Kampala.
