Martin Owor, the commissioner of disaster preparedness says all municipalities in Uganda except Hoima received the food relief for the urban poor, not only Mbarara.

Martin Owor, the commissioner of disaster preparedness in the Prime Minister's Office has justified the now controversial allocation of food aid to the urban poor in Mbarara Municipality and other urban areas.

Owor came under the spotlight after a letter signed by him askin the town clerk of Mbarara municipality to approve a consignment of 600 bags of rice to the urban poor in Mbarara, was circulated on social media.

On Tuesday this week the minister for disaster preparedness Hillary Onek expressed ignorance about food distribution in urban centre. But Owor says the distribution list was approved by cabinet to which Onek and his deputy Musa Ecweru attended.

Though the minister claims he is not aware about the urban poor food distribution, NTV has seen a copy of a list of urban centres to receive food relief that he tabled before parliament. In this letter Mbarara is just one of the municipalities that include Entebbe, Kumi, Soroti and others.NTV has also seen an ammended version of the list that indicate that Makindye division in Kampala has aslo received 500 bags of rice.
