The changes in the army have elicited mixed reactions from civilians and army officers alike with some saying the changes were in line with making the army more professional while others claimed the reshuffle was done for the wrong reasons.
The Presidential adviser on security in Buganda region, Brigadier Kasirye Ggwanga has applauded the appointment of Gen. Katumba Wamala to the Works Ministry arguing that it will help streamline operations and get rid of corruption in the ministry.
But the MPs NTV spoke to were not impressed by Gen. Wamala's new appointment and they claim that Gen. Wamala's appointment as state minister is a demotion.
Brigadier Kasirye Ggwanga poured scorn on the promotion of Gen David Muhoozi as the Chief of Defence Forces. Brigadier Ggwanga claims he will not be taking any orders from Gen. Muhoozi saying he has more experience than he new CDF.
Brig. Kasirye Ggwanga also spoke out about Major General Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s new appointment saying that being a special presidential advisor is a role that has many responsibilities.
The army reshuffle comes barely three months after the attack on the Rwenzururu King’s palace in Kasese district that left more than 100 people dead. Opposition politicians from Kasese have been calling for the government and commander of the attack to be brought to justice.
The Leader of Opposition in Parliament, Winnie Kiiza criticised the appointment of Brigadier Peter Elwelu who commanded the attack.
