Constitutional Court issues order stopping parliament from debating Shs6B oil money

The Deputy Chief Justice Steven Kavuma granted the application filed by Eric Sabiiti the senior legal officer in charge of litigation at the Electoral Commission.

The Constitutional Court has issued an interim order stopping parliament from debating,  investigating or inquiring into the shs.6 billion reward to senior government officials until the main petition filed against the Attorney General is heard and disposed off.

The Deputy Chief Justice Steven Kavuma granted the application filed by Eric Sabiiti the senior legal officer in charge of litigation at the Electoral Commission. Sabiiti filed the same through Candia and Oundo Company Advocates. He is challenging Parliament’s decision to appoint committees to investigate the executive authority and powers of the president.

On 16th November, 2015 Museveni directed that a team of 42 government officials who were involved in a series of court battles with  oil companies Heritage and Tullow oil  be rewarded a honorarium  for their professionalism and patriotism after  the government  won the cases bagging about 700m dollars.

Justice Kavuma also directed the registrar of the court to ensure that this case is fixed for hearing in the next convenient session.
