The 5.7 magnitude earthquake was felt in most parts of the country and it left a trail of destruction and injuries caused by collapsing buildings in the areas along the Tanzania border.
Hilary Onek, the minister for disaster preparedness and refugees, has visited the families of people in Rakai district whose homes were brought down by an earthquake that originated in neighbouring Tanzania on 10th September.
The 5.7 magnitude earthquake sent tremors across the border, shaking up most parts of the country and leaving a trail of property destruction and injuries caused by collapsing buildings.
In the wake of the minister’s visit, officials of the Uganda Revenue Authority alongside their colleagues from the Uganda National Bureau of Standards confiscated substandard construction materials. They said this could have been the reason some homes went down in the tremors.
