National Water and Sewerage Corporation says water supply to several parts of Kampala will be cut off on Thursday this week as it undertakes the rehabilitation and upgrade of its plant in Ggaba.
The works will see the plant boost its capacity by an additional 50 million litres of water. Currently the National Water and Sewerage Corporation supplies 190 million litres of water to Kampala every day yet the demand is 240 million litres.
Last week there were scenes of crowds struggling to fetch water from a few wells in the Kampala suburb of Namwongo after NWSC shut down its Ggaba 1 plant for rehabilitation. Amid the chaotic scenes that erupted, many people blamed the corporation for failing to issue enough prior warnings.
The corporation has decided to avoid such scenarios ahead of a shut down of another plant, Ggaba II as the executive director taken it upon himself to urge Kampala residents to prepare for interruptions in water supply.
The interruptions in the supply will affect the central business district and the old colonial city including the city centre. The affected areas include Jinja road, Kyambogo, Banda Nakulabye Makerere, Kawempe,Luzira ,Mulago ,Nansana, Nsambya and surrounding areas.
