A police officer has sued former Inspector General of Police Kale Kayihura. The police officer is demanding compensation from the former IGP for deliberately depriving him of a chance to actively participate in the 2016 general elections by refusing to consider his application for resignation from the Uganda Police Force.Assistant Inspector of Police, Nelson Mungasa, who is currently the OC CID at Bugoloobi police station wanted to vie for the Member of Parliament seat Tingeyi county in Kapchorwa district in 2016.
Mungasa contends that owing to his political aspirations, through his then immediate supervisor at Jinja Road police station in Kampala, he wrote to the office of the IGP seeking to resign from the police force.
However, his dreams of joining the 10th Parliament were allegedly shattered by Kayihura whom he accuses of usurping the powers of the police council when he solely rejected his application for resignation.
Mangos says Kayihura’s actions were unlawful and aimed at depriving him of his constitutional right to participate in the governance of his country. Mungasa also seeks damages from Kayihura for both financial loss and psychological torture that he claims to have suffered.
