The police and soldiers of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces have conducted a joint operation in Kaliisizo, Kyotera district and in Kiwangala in Lwengo district to rid the area of criminal elements.
During the security raid, five suspects were picked up from bars, shops and homes in Kalisizo, where they had been hiding.
Guns were also reportedly recovered from the suspects. It's said robbers have been using the guns to terrorize people in Greater Masaka.
It is believed that in the two areas are the hub of armed robbers, who have been terrorising resident and living them in fear for their lives and losing their property.
Three weeks ago, some suspects outwitted prison warders at Masaka Chief Magistrates Court and fled to the nearby bush. The four were charged with the murder of people in Bukomansimbi district.
Last year, a wave of crime hit Greater Masaka with districts like Masaka, Bukomansimbi and Lwengo being the most affected.
