Two MTN employees have been remanded to Luzira prison after being charged with the unauthorised blocking of sim-cards and defrauding people using telephone lines belonging to Lands minister Persis Namuganza and minister for Agriculture Christopher Kibanzanga.
The duo; Nasser Kigenyi a Customer service adviser and Henry Mugambe a salesman both attached to MTN -Mubende -Kyegegwa Branch appeared before Buganda road court grade one magistrate Samuel Kagoda and denied 9 counts including Electronic fraud, computer misuse, unauthorised blocking of sim cards and conspiracy to defraud.
Prosecution led by Nelly Asiku stated that in February 2018, the accused while in Kampala and Mubende unlawfully swapped sim-card numbers belonging to the MinistersNamuganza and Kibanzanga
It's further alleged that the fraudsters stole huge sums of money from the unsuspecting members of the public whom they would send Sms while pretending to be the registered users
Court also heard that among other people whose sim-cards were used by the 2 suspects to con people including Western Uganda Youth MP Mwine Mpaka and Mercy Kyankunda.
The suspects were remanded to Luzira prison until 15th March 2017 as inquiries into this case are still on-going.
