Luweero woman who was sold expired contraceptives seeks justice

Police are investigating Luweero health center IV for allegedly recommending expired contraceptives to a woman seeking family-planning services. Maria Nalunkuuma reported the case to police in January after developing complications and eventually discovering that the implant inserted into her arm expired in November 2017.

Maria Nalunkuuma, a resident of Kavule zone in Luweero town council went to Luweero health center IV seeking family planning services in early JanuaryShe received a contraceptive implant that was meant to last for three years. She says, however, that the complications started the day after.After 15 days of discomfort, Nalunkuuma and her husband decided that the implant should be removed.She says that this time she went to a different facility, where she was informed that the implant had expired in November last year.Her husband Salim Mugodha says they reported the case to Police.Dr. Sarah Ogobi, the officer-in-charge at Luweero health center IV says the said implant could not have come from the facility because it does not contain a client number and the couple could be harboring ulterior motives.

Raymond Jjaggwe, the officer in charge of criminal investigations at Luwero police station is handling the case.
