The formulation of the national policy on faith based organizations has begun with a symposium held in Kampala to thrash out the contentious issues.
The debate, which is facilitated by the directorate of ethics and integrity in the office of the president, was graced by a number of religious leaders.
The directorate is mandated to oversee the operations of all religious institutions in Uganda.
State minister of ethics and Integrity the Rev. Father Simon Lokodo explained the need for the national policy on faith based organizations, saying the institutions have had an identity crisis
Officials from the directorate of ethics and integrity, the institution that formulated the policy believe that it will address many issues affecting the different faiths such as the mushrooming of churches, fraudsters, corruption and other criminal activities.
The directorate of ethics and integrity will conduct countrywide consultations on the national policy of faith based organizations before the proposals are debated in cabinet.
The line minister will then table in Parliament the relevant bill to regulate faith based organizations.
