In July 2015, Parliament passed a resolution creating 65 new constituencies, which would have representation in Parliament. Among the new counties is Ik county that has a population of 13,000 people.
The Ik are a minority ethnic group living in the mountains of Kaabong district in Karamoja sub-region, in north-eastern Uganda. The community has borne the brunt of conflict, cattle raids, hunger famine and also grapples with poor basic services like schools and hospitals.
