The 4th and final session of the 68th Graduation of Makerere University kicked off today with the awarding of an Honorary Doctorate of Laws to the anti-apartheid icon and former wife to South Africa’s first black president Nelson Mandela, Winnie Madikizela Mandela.
Winnie Mandela was awarded the Honorary Doctorate for her role in the struggle against apartheid in South Africa, highlighting the key role she played in the liberation of black South Africans.
Winnie Mandela was represented at the award ceremony by her niece, Gandhi Baai, who received the award on her behalf

The 4th Session of the 68th Makerere University graduation today concluded the 4-day event and during which 14,085 students graduated from the university’s different schools and colleges.
