UPDF yet to establish link between Gulu attack and any rebel activity

Security agents have arrested more than 30 people some of the suspects include UPDF soldiers and opposition politicians.

The attack on the central police station in Gulu took many people by surprise. But it was not the first armed men were attacking a a security post in Gulu in recent months. Last month, gunmen raided Opit military barracks and made off with guns and ammunition.The spokesperson of the Uganda People’s Defense Forces, Lt. Col. Paddy Ankunda says the army and the police are conducting joint operations  to contain the situation and the joint team has got leads on the trouble spots.Security agents have arrested more than 30 people for allegedly engaging in subversive activities. Some of the suspects include UPDF soldiers and opposition politicians.

However, the army has denied any links between the latest Gulu attack and any rebel activity.

Meanwhile, the UPDF will be pulling out of the Central African Republic where have been hunting for the rebels of the Lords Resistance Army for the past six years.

The army spokesperson says the LRA rebels are no longer a threat to the country.
