In recent years the management and officials of Ngabo Academy of Science and Technology, a school founded to educate the children of fallen fighters of the 1981-1986 bush war have found themselves in the media spotlight for the wrong reasons.
Last year, the Director and co-founder of the school retired Captain David Bashaija was accused by the Commission of Inquiry into land matters of grabbing 79 Acres of land belonging to the National Agricultural Research Organization in Mbarara.
The directors and alumni of the school say the allegations of land grabbing are baseless and only intended to tarnish the name of the school.
While addressing the media in Kampala on Saturday morning, General Elly Tumwine, the chairman of the Ngabo Academy Board of Directors, said the stories in the media were a misrepresentation of the facts.
The leadership of Ngabo College led by former bush war fighters like General Elly Tumwine and Maj General Jim Muhwezi have said they were determined to restore the image and glory of the school. The alumni of the school have also vowed to defend its reputation.
The school’s leaders also claim that ever since the negative stories began appearing in the media, the school has lost billions of shillings and student enrollment has dropped.
The directors say the real purpose for which the school was started has been forgotten.
For now the Ngabo Development Association has promised to write to the President to intervene in the matter
