The MP's also allege that the movers of the bill are being sponsored and supported by some organizations that they believe do not have the country's best interests at heart.

A section of lawmakers led by the former minister for integrity but now the MP for Bufumbira County East Nsaba Buturo has called on fellow MPs to reject the National Biotechnology and Biosafety Bill 2012.

According to Nsaba Buturo, the bill in its state is designed to support the Genetically Modified Organisms, which the lawmakers argue that it is not good for the country.

Buturo also added that this bill's intention is to promote Genetically modified organisms in the country.

The MP's further noted that Parliament and the minister should clarify on matters related to security, safety and accountability before they could assent to the bill.

The MP's also allege that the movers of the bill are being sponsored and supported by some organizations that they believe do not have the country's best interests at heart.

The bill seeks to provide a regulatory framework that facilitates the safe development and application of biotechnology, research, development and release of genetically modified organisms.

Last year President Yoweri Museveni rejected the bill and returned it back to Parliament.
