On Thursday, the department of surveys and mapping in Entebbe was in the spotlight after the commission of inquiry into land matters visited their office.
The Chairperson of the Justice Catherine Bamugemereire tasked the commissioner of Surveys and mapping Wilson Ebunyu Ogaro to explain how he authorised the survey of lake Birinzi in Masaka and later allowed a title to be issued in the names of Harji Muyanja Mbabali the Bukoto south Mp.
The commission further revealed that Lake Wamala covering part of Mityana and Mubende district also has titles.
Justice Bamugemereire revealed that Kajansi forest land along Entebbe road is also being surveyed fraudulently by the land grabbers she did not name.
During the interrogation of the officials at the surveys and mapping department, the commission came across a file of an application to survey church land at Kikandwa in Nakaseke district.
The commission was also informed the Aerial surveys are currently going on to review the colonial maps of Uganda.
They were also informed that Church of Uganda is demanding for compensation for part of the land on the airport currently undergoing expansion.
