Makerere University has banned the practice of lecturers marking students’ examination papers in their homes, as a remedy to increased cases of missing marks and delayed delivery of results.
Vice Chancellor Prof Barnabas Nawangwe says Centralised marking centres have been established at all university colleges for lectures to do the marking.
Lecturers will use these rooms between 8 am and 6 pm to mark examination papers.
They will no longer be allowed to take the papers home to mark them.
Nawangwe is hopeful that the new policy will also eliminate the cases of lectures who demand sex from students for marks.

A December 2017 report by the Makerere University Visitation Committee established by President Yoweri Museveni in 2016 pointed out continuous cases of sexual harassment and exploitation of female students as one of the problems the university is grappling with.
