This year International Family Day in Uganda was celebrated at Namugongo Catholic Martyrs Shrine where a special mass was held.
The mass was led by the Archbishop of Kampala, Dr Cyprian Kizito Lwanga.
During mass, the Archbishop joined seven couples in holy matrimony.
Archbishop Lwanga warned the newly wedded couples that they have joined an institution from which they are not expected to resign.
He scoffed at married women who do not want to give birth to children.
The Archbishop also highlighted issues that commonly lead to the increasing family break-ups.
Lwanga went on to give the newly married couples some tips on how they can keep their marriages strong. He emphasized that it was important for the newly-weds to keep working on ways of maintaining their attraction to each other.
Increasingly, the high costs associated with modern weddings have led many youths to shy away from formalizing their relationships through marriage.
The archbishop had a few words of advice for them.
The International Family Day comes at a time when many families are plagued by domestic violence, poor child upbringing and related issues, which the church attributes to vices such as drug abuse and unfaithfulness.
