Former Uganda Cranes striker, Geoffrey Massa, has been involved in a shooting incident with police officers, which resulted in one injury.

Former Uganda Cranes striker, Geoffrey Massa, has been involved in a shooting incident with police officers, which resulted in one injury.

According to a police statement about the incident, Massa's car was shot at by police officers near the Namboole flyover in Bweyogerere, just outside Kampala, in the early hours of Thursday morning.

In the statement the Police claims that shooting happened after officers on patrol attempted to talk to the occupants of a car that was parked at the side of the highway. The car sped off and the police officers pursued it and attempted to stop it by shooting its tyres. The car turned out to be Massa's and in the process of the shooting a lady that was a passenger in the car was subsequently injured.

Geoffrey Massa is said to have stopped suddenly stopped, almost hitting another motorist, allegedly sustained injuries after he smashed his forehead  into the car's windscreen.

The police says that Massa and the female occupant, Josephine Maliza, of the car were rushed to a nearby clinic where they were given medical attention.  Maliza, who is approximately 25 years old is said to not to be in critical condition despite sustaining a bullet wound.

According to Emilian Kayima, the Public Relations Officer of Kampala Metropolitan Police, a General Enquiry File (GEF) has been opened in order to establish the truth behind the incident and the outcome of the inquiry will determine who bears responsibility for the incident.
