Lwamafa and co-accused will return to Luzira prison as they have a pending case before the Anti-Corruption Court for which they have not secured bail.

The Court of Appeal has granted bail to Jimmy Lwamafa, the former Permanent Secretary in the ministry of Public Service.

The Deputy Chief Justice Steven Kavuma has ordered that Shs50 million, which Lwamafa deposited with the Anti-Corruption Court for his bail should be transferred and deposited with the Court of Appeal.

Lwamafa's three sureties were bonded at Shs40 million and he was also ordered to report to the court registrar once each month starting from 31st July until the disposal of his appeal.

The former PS and his co-accused, Christopher Obey and Stephen Kiwanuka Kunsa, had appealed against the judgement of the Anti-Corruption Court, which sentenced them to serve jail terms and ordered them to refund Shs50 billion of the Shs88 billion they had embezzled.

However, they will return to Luzira prison as they have a pending case before the Anti-Corruption Court for which they have not secured bail. The case is before Justice Margaret Tibulya.
