Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) has announced that it will start evicting anyone encroaching on road reserves on 15th May. This evictions will affect those living along national roads.
The UNRA enforcement team will start the evictions on the Kampala-Entebbe highway, before they move to other parts of the country. Entebbe road from Kibuye round about to Entebbe Airport will be affected. The next phase is in the Kampala metropolitan areas like Jinja road, Masaka Road, Hoima Road and Bombo road.
UNRA says the exercise, which will be carried out during the day and night, will not spare permanent or temporary structures, containers and metal kiosks, or markets.
UNRA’s head of enforcement John Ssejemba says compensation will be for only the credible cases.Some people who operate in Kibuye’s suburb of Kampala said they were not aware about the order and are not ready to leave. They have asked UNRA for an extension
