Government has allowed more than 300 squatters living in the camps of Tojwe and Kitiko, in Nairambi sub-counties in Buvuma district to use part of Kojja central forest reserve for farming.
Two years ago, the squatters were evicted from the forest by the National Forestry Authority for cutting down trees for charcoal burning and firewood.
They were allocated part of the land by Buvuma district authorities together with officials of the National Forest Authority after they agreed to abide by the set conditions of planting trees in cleared areas. The forest covers 166 hectares.
